About the Workplace Lab

The NIBS Workplace Lab is where the practical work happens. It is connected to your NIBS Campus account: tasks are assigned there, evidence is submitted there, and facilitators assess it there.

Learn, Do, Operate

Every Role Pathway runs the way a first three months at work does. NIBS Campus carries the Learn stage. The Workplace Lab carries Do and Operate: guided practice first, then less-guided workplace simulation.

    Orientation and preparation

    Understand the work before you do it. Short lessons, examples and the standard you will be assessed against.

    Guided practice

    Open a workplace task, do it with guidance, and submit your evidence for assessment.

  3. Operate

    Less-guided workplace simulation

    Work the way you would on the job. Fewer prompts, real deadlines, assessed against the NIBS standard.

How a task moves

  1. AssignedA task is created for you against a competency in your pathway.
  2. In progressYou open it, read the brief and do the work.
  3. SubmittedYou upload your evidence: documents, spreadsheets, screenshots, recordings.
  4. Under reviewA facilitator judges the evidence against the NIBS standard.
  5. Competent, or Resubmission requiredClear feedback either way. Resubmit as many times as the pathway allows.
  6. ClosedThe result is returned to NIBS and recorded on your Skills Passport.

  • In progress
  • Submitted
  • Under review
  • Competent
  • Resubmission required
  • Closed
Your evidence
Stays in the Workplace Lab. The public site and the Skills Passport hold only a reference to it, never the files.
Who sees it
You and your facilitator. Organisations sponsoring a cohort see progress, not evidence.
What NIBS records
The outcome, the competency, the facilitator reference and the date.
