What is this programme?

Write professional letters, reports and CVs in Word: formatting, styles, tables, graphics, references and working on a document with other people.

It is weeks 1 to 4 of the 12-week Microsoft 365 Workplace Productivity Skill Pathway, taught on its own: the same lessons, practice projects and assessed brief, around a fictional South African business.

Who is it for?

Anyone with NIBS Plus who wants practical Word skills for work. Basic computer confidence is enough; Digital Literacy & Workplace Foundations is a good start.

What will I be able to do?

In 24 short lessons you build the Word skills an office job asks for:

What will I actually do?

You work through short lessons with a hands-on step in each, check yourself with a quiz, and finish a practice project in every module. At the end you complete an assessed brief that a NIBS assessor marks against a published rubric.

How long does it take?

About 21 hours of lessons, practice and the assessed brief, at your own pace. In the pathway these are weeks 1 to 4.

How will I study?

Online through NIBS Campus, or at a NIBS e-Learning Cafe where there are computers with the software.

What evidence will I produce?

Your practice projects stay with you. The assessed brief is handed in privately for an assessor's decision against the rubric you can read before you start.

Every submission moves through the same states:

  • Assigned
  • In progress
  • Submitted
  • Under review
  • Competent
  • Resubmission required
  • Closed

What credential do I receive?

A Certificate of Completion on your Skills Passport when every lesson is complete. It records the learning, not competence. A Skills Certificate can be issued when an assessor records Competent on your assessed brief. This is NIBS skills training that can help you prepare for the Microsoft Office Specialist (MO-110) exam, which is taken separately; NIBS is not affiliated with or endorsed by Microsoft, and this is not an official Microsoft certification.

Where can this lead?

This course is part of the 12-week Microsoft 365 Workplace Productivity Skill Pathway, which adds the other two applications and a final Workplace Productivity Lab.
